Friends of Shakespeare
Fund Drive

An area group of parents, students, community members and “Friends of Shakespeare” sponsored by the Jr./Sr. High PTO, Inc. are reaching out to residents for their help to raise money for the Fall Festival of Shakespeare at the Taconic Hills Central School. The partnership between the Friends and the Lenox, Mass. based “Shakespeare and Company” is unique. Professional directors audition, train and direct students each year. Students also work alongside professional lighting, sound and costume directors.  The 10 week residencies at the Taconic Hills campus began in 2001. Students perform at the Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center and at Founder’s Theatre in Lenox, MA. each November.

Shakespeare and Company bring together a wide range of students in grades 9-12 to collaborate, dialogue, and develop acting talents and an appreciation of William Shakespeare’s work. Students participate in all aspects of theater: staging, costumes, lighting, sound, makeup, set design, as well as acting. In addition, Shakespeare and Company staff members share this wonderful theatre experience with all high school and some middle school students during in school workshops in the fall.

The students have performed and produced such classics as: Macbeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, King Lear, Richard III, Henry V, Love’s Labor Lost, and the Tempest. Students delve into the meaning of the text and learn so much more from performing.

We have been redoubling our fundraising efforts to ensure the return of this indispensable program for the coming years. The Jr./Sr. High PTO has helped sponsor many of the events and as a 501 (c) 3 corporation is able to accept tax-deductible donations towards this cause.

In 2014, Shakespeare and Company will celebrate 26 years of the Fall Festival. Taconic Hills is so proud to be a part of this wonderful experience for our students and community.
