DEPARTMENTS
Beginning September 2024, Taconic Hills Central School District is implementing Yondr pouches for grades 7-12 as part of our commitment to creating focused and distraction-free learning environments. These secure pouches allow students to lock away their phones during school hours, reducing distractions and promoting more meaningful engagement in the classroom. By using Yondr, we aim to enhance academic performance, encourage face-to-face interactions, and foster a more productive and respectful learning atmosphere for all students.
What is a Yondr Pouch?
The Yondr Pouch is a secure bag that is used to store a cell phone and/or bluetooth devices (such as Smartwatches). It is secured and unlocked with a special magnetic unlocking device.
Why has the district decided to use the Yondr Pouch?
We want our students engaged in their learning, with appropriate interpersonal social interaction throughout the day. Phones have become a distraction and our goal is to maximize student engagement and promote positive social interactions.
How will students receive their Yondr Pouch?
On Monday, September 9th, all students will attend a Town Hall meeting. At this time they will receive information on how to open and close the pouch, review the school’s phone policy, and sign the policy. Students will keep their Pouch with them at all times, they are responsible for bringing it each day to school.
How will students lock and unlock their phones each day?
As students enter the building they will show the staff member that they are “locking” the Pouch. As students exit each day they will unlock their Pouch at the magnetic station, located at the exit of the building. Any student arriving late or leaving early will pouch/unpouch in the main office.
What if I need to reach my student during the day?
If you need to contact your student during the day, please contact the main office, and we will relay a message to your student or call them to the office in order to make contact with you.
What if my student wants to listen to music during the day?
Students will be able to use headphones, connected to their laptops, to listen to music during appropriate times during the school day.
What if there is a school emergency?
In case of an emergency, safety is our first priority, and we will continue to follow our District Emergency Procedures:
In the event of a lockdown, school staff will direct students to follow our previously established procedures. Student cell phone use during this time has the potential to endanger the safety of the student using the phone and all students/staff in the classroom.
Families will be contacted by school staff as soon as possible with the most accurate information.
