The Taconic Hills Central School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Lynnette Brunger as Superintendent of Schools, effective October 10, 2023. The Board of Education unanimously approved her appointment at its September 5 meeting.
Brunger has 27 years of experience as a school administrator and teacher. She is currently the Assistant Superintendent at Liberty CSD, which serves nearly 1,700 students in Sullivan County, NY.
“I am honored to be selected to serve Taconic Hills and look forward to working alongside our families, community members, and board to support our teachers, administrators, and students. Educators today have an exciting, yet intense role and when they are appreciated for all they do, our students and community are the beneficiaries. My goal is to continue to improve our schools and provide our students with the best education and experience possible,” said Brunger.
She started her teaching career in the Maine-Endwell Central School District in 1993. She later served as curriculum coordinator and 7-12 assistant principal in Norwich CSD, assistant principal at Union-Endicott CSD, and elementary principal at Susquehanna Valley CSD. She was an elementary and middle school principal at Newburgh CSD for 11 years before moving to Liberty CSD in August 2021.
Brunger has a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from SUNY Cortland, a Bachelor’s degree in art history from James Madison University, a Master’s degree in K-12 literacy from SUNY Cortland, and a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from SUNY Cortland.
“We are excited to welcome Lynnette Brunger to Taconic Hills CSD and introduce her to our school community. She stood out among a strong pool of candidates with administrative experience. Her background and commitment to providing all students with a high-quality education makes her the right person to lead our school district,” said Board President Bonnie Torchia.
The Taconic Hills CSD Board of Education offered Brunger the Superintendent position following an extensive search and interview process, which began in February 2023 with assistance from Questar III BOCES.
The Board asked the community to provide feedback on the desired characteristics of the next superintendent and received more than 560 submissions via an online survey. Torchia said the community’s feedback was reflected in the development of a recruitment brochure and the interview questions. Taconic Hills CSD received a total of 28 applications for the Superintendent position.
“The Board would like to thank our parents, staff, students, and community members for their input and feedback throughout the search process,” said Torchia.
