The Taconic Hills Elementary School recently organized a food drive to benefit the Blessing Box at Our Lady of Hope in Copake Falls.
This initiative was dedicated to the memory of Mary Westlake, the beloved mother of teaching Assistant Colleen Miller. We are grateful for their compassionate gesture.

A Lockdown Drill was held this morning at Taconic Hills. The drill is designed to simulate an emergency response and help students, teachers and staff understand appropriate steps to take during an emergency.
Thank you to our emergency responders for their assistance with this drill. The school has resumed normal operations.
Taconic Hills Little League Registration is now open! The deadline to register is Saturday, March 16.

Thursday, February 22, 2024 is New York Give FFA Day! 🌿🐄
Go to giveffa.day.ffa.org/campaigns/ney-york-ffa and enter Chapter "Taconic Hills FFA" to support the Taconic Hills FFA!
Chapters with the most donations in each district will be awarded $200. And the Chapter with the highest donation dollar amount will earn $500. All chapters who generate $500 or more in donations will be recognized on stage at the FFA Convention in May.
Donations can be made early, and also pledged (promised) by Friday February 16. Donations and pledges received by this date will be uploaded to Nationals so that donors names can be displayed on our official roll.
What does the FFA Foundation do with the money it raises?
Every year the primary mission of the NY FFA Foundation is to raise funds to support our FFA members through travel stipends, convention sponsorships, scholarships, SAE grants, FFA jackets, and so much more. If successful on February 22, the NY FFA Foundation will have a jump start to meet the funding needs of the FFA Association and hundreds of NY FFA members. Your support is vital to our success.

Attention Jr./Sr. High Parents/Guardians:
Registration is now open for the 2024 Spring Athletics Season.
Registrations must be completed by a parent/guardian. Please read all information provided below.
For this season, we offer Girls and Boys Track & Field ( Varsity & Modified), Softball (Varsity, JV, and Modified), Baseball (Varsity, JV, and Modified), Tennis(Varsity only), and Clay Shooting(Varsity/JV).
Due to NYSED regulations, registrations can only open 30 days prior to start dates and therefore, you will not be able to register your son/daughter until the date listed below.
VARSITY/JV opened 2/11/24
MODIFIED opens 2/25/24
Clay Shooting: Registration will be open from February 11th- March 1st. Limit to 35 participants. Returning players have a spot on the team. New members will need to tryout on a date TBD at the Philmont Rod n Gun Club. All need a current physical and the Hunters Safety Certification.
Student-athletes are required to have a current health physical on file (dated 3/1/2023 or later) prior to the start of the season in order to be approved by our school nurse to participate. Student-athletes in need of an updated physical will need to provide the nurse with a copy of a physical completed by their primary care provider. Appointments can also be made at WellNow in Hudson. Students will not be approved to participate without a current physical. Please use the NYS health examination form (https://5il.co/uvqt ) and give to your primary. The box indicating approval for participation in athletics and cardiac history reviewed must be checked. Our school nurse's fax number is 518.325.2858.
Students in grades 7 & 8 are eligible to participate at the modified level and students in grades 9 - 12 are eligible to participate at the JV or Varsity level. Any 7th or 8th grade student, interested in playing at the JV or Varsity level, must go through the Athletic Placement Process. Please contact the Athletic Director asap for the necessary forms as this process takes time. Fitness test will be given Monday March 4th to those that have submitted the required paperwork.
Information on specific tryout locations and times for each sport will be posted online, announced at school, listed in Schedule Galaxy or provided to you by coach prior to the first day.
The majority of practices will be held 3 to 5pm but times will change due to gym or field availability/weather/etc. Students may take the 5:15 bus home. At the end of each sports season, NYSPHSAA honors those varsity teams and individuals that excel in the classroom. Those student-athletes work very hard throughout the year and deserve to be recognized for their academic success. To receive team recognition, the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90.00. Students with a 90 or above will also be recognized as scholar athletes. They each will receive a pin and a certificate.
I am proud to announce that the following Varsity teams are Scholar Athlete teams for the 2023-2024 Winter Season.

In addition we had 39 out of 72 Varsity athletes with an average of 90 or higher.

Please see below message from the Elementary PTO regarding Books on Wheels next week.
The PTO has decided that we will not be having Books on Wheels next week on Wednesday, February 14th, as it is Valentine's Day!!
That means the kids will have to carry their valentines in and out, so who needs to worry about carrying money into school for books or carrying additional books out of school! Plus the Ducky Valentine's will be leaving the nest that day too... so much excitement for just one day!!
So we will take a break from Books on Wheels for February 14th and then return again on February 28th after Mid-Winter Break!!! Thank you so much for all of your support!

Due to unforeseen transportation staffing issues, Ski Club for today (2/7/2024) has been cancelled.
Additionally, in order to ensure the safety of students, ski equipment cannot be transported on the bus home with the students. Parents/Guardians are kindly asked to pick up their student’s equipment at the District either today or tomorrow.

Mrs. Bowker and Mrs. Rogers' third grade class recently learned about the interdependency of trout in science. After learning about this, the students collaborated to create a stream to depict a habitat for the trout.
